Calvin Tankman def. Lee MoriartyI've heard nothing but good things about both of these guys. I've seen Moriarty in action on AEW Dark and he's every bit as talented as people say he is. I'm happy he's since been locked down to a deal by them, but at least he ended his MLW run on a high note with this fun match against Tankman. Moriarty is an amazing aerial artist and Tankman can do some incredible things as a big man, so it was no surprise they worked wonderfully together. Post-match, King Mo and Alex Kane offered Tankman a spot in American Top Team and Tankman said he'd consider it. Brittany Blake def. Delmi ExoExo is one-half of the Sea Stars. This was my first exposure to Blake and I thought she did well. I actually expected her to win because of how she interrupted Willow (or that's who I believe it was) during her backstage promo last week, but it was Exo picking up the victory instead. It was a fine showcase for MLW's new women's division. I appreciated that they were given a decent amount of time and not the typical two minutes we've seen in some promotions lately (you know who I'm talking about). Davey Richards def. Tom Lawlor in an Opera Cup Opening Round MatchLawlor was last year's winner of the Opera Cup and Richards is fresh off a return to the ring, so this could have gone either way. This is only the second match I've seen Richards have in MLW, but despite being out of the ring for a few years, he hasn't missed a beat. Of course, having equally excellent opponents helps and that was once again the case here. This was an entertaining main event as Richards moves on to the next round. Overall ShowIn addition to the above matches, we also found out that Alexander Hammerstone has willingly vacated the MLW National Openweight Championship and that there will be a War Chamber match next month pitting a team led by Hammerstone against Contra Unit. We also got an "exposé" on Cesar Duran and the apparent end of Lucha Underground in Boyle Heights, which was very interesting and well done. This was a terrific way to follow up the Fightland special on Vice and keep the ball rolling with some important stuff.
