MLW Fusion: ALPHA Review - October 27, 2021

Bobby Fish def. Lee Moriarty in an Opera Cup Opening Round Match

I was mildly disappointed that Fish didn't come out to his "Dance Away" entrance music from Ring of Honor that he's been using recently in AEW as well. Oh well, maybe MLW couldn't afford it. These two recently faced off on an episode of Rampage, but this was actually taped before that. Fish has looked like a new man since leaving WWE and Moriarty is a star on the rise. This was a very enjoyable opener and Fish vs. Davey Richards in the next round should be a banger.

Mads Krugger def. Dr. Dax; Krugger def. Budd Heavy

It sure seems like Krugger is primed to be the next top heel in MLW now that Jacob Fatu has lost the MLW World Heavyweight Championship. He's getting the monster push right now, and based on what the commentators said about his history with Alex Hammerstone, they're bound to collide for the MLW title one of these days. Krugger killed Dax in under a minute and did the same to Heavy, so this was total domination.

TJP def. Alex Shelley in an Opera Cup Opening Round Match

This marked Shelley's MLW debut. He hasn't appeared for IMPACT since January, so I'm happy he'll be back to appearing in a wrestling promotion on a regular basis. He's a great fit, as seen in this match and the chemistry he had with TJP. They didn't go all out the way I hoped they would, but then again, all of these Opera Cup matches were taped in the same night, so I understand these guys wanting to pace themselves. On the whole, it was an entertaining main event. Shelley losing in the first round was certainly a surprise.

Overall Show

In addition to all of the stuff with Cesar Duran (which I've found compelling because I'm such a big fan of his work), we also found that nZo is coming to MLW. I can't say that does much for me, but I'm willing to give it a chance. This was a thumbs-up show with a simple showcase for Krugger and two very well-wrestled Opera Cup opening round matches. MLW has found a formula that works for Fusion and it's always such an easy hour of wrestling to watch.
