MLW Fusion: Kings of Colosseum Review - July 14, 2022

Brittany Blake def. Zoey Skye

I've seen Blake in action before on Fusion, but I believe this was my first exposure to Skye. I liked how they wasted no time getting into it with Skye leaping off the turnbuckle onto Blake to start the match. There wasn't much more to it than that though because it was so brief. They made the most of their time and had a fun little sprint, but I have no idea why it was so short when the show's almost an hour long and the other two matches were on the shorter side as well.

Matt Cross def. ACH

Both of these guys are terrific talents, so unsurprisingly, this was an enjoyable outing. There was no reason behind it, mind you, but the crowd was into it for as long as it lasted despite the odd babyface vs. babyface dynamic. Cross seemingly loses far more than he wins, so I appreciated that he finally scored a win here. If ACH isn't going to be a regular, there probably isn't much use in protecting him.

MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alexander Hammerstone def. Richard Holliday

This had a big fight feel and rightfully so because it's been in the works for a while. Unfortunately, this was disappointing to me. The fact this was less than 10 minutes is ridiculous, and most of that time was wasted on silly shenanigans. I realize they were designed to make it look like Hammerstone was in jeopardy of losing his title, but it watered down the match to me more than anything. Again, this was good, but it definitely could have been better.

Overall Show

What a weird special. It was basically a one-match show coming in, but that one match didn't meet my expectations due to how it was booked, and that's a bummer because it had been built up for so long. The rest of this show was hardly anything special because of how short the women's match was and how inconsequential Cross vs. ACH was despite being well wrestled. A commercial indicated that Fusion won't be back until the fall, so if this was it for now, then this was a lame way of closing out this season of the show. I assume the matches filmed at Battle Riot last month won't air until then?
