The Hammerheads (MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alexander Hammerstone, EJ Nduka, Richard Holliday, Savio Vega and Jeff Cobb) def. Contra Unit (Jacob Fatu, Mads Krugger, Ikuro Kwon and Sentai Death Squad) in a War Chamber Match
This was the big culmination of Hammerstone's long-running rivalry with Contra Unit and, ultimately, the grand finale for Contra Unit. However, and this may have been just me, but it didn't feel like it. The early goings were good and there were some fun moments throughout, but as an overall package, it didn't pack the punch I thought and hoped it would. It was over very shortly after everyone entered the ring. Maybe I'm just spoiled by all of the excellent WarGames matches we've gotten in WWE NXT over the years, but this never felt like it reached that next gear. The Cobb surprise was cool and I'm curious if that confirms in storyline that he was Matanza Cueto the whole time or if he just filled in for him here because Matanza technically died in Lucha Underground. I'm also glad Contra finally came to an end here with the tension between Fatu and Krugger boiling over. That made for a nice ending to the show.
As a one-match show, War Chamber was certainly a spectacle but not nearly as exciting, brutal or bloody as I expected it to be. The important thing is that the right team won and now we can move on to the next chapter with everyone involved. Other matches were taped at the War Chamber event, but they will be airing on the upcoming episodes of Fusion: ALPHA. This show is worth watching, but I'd advise tempering your expectations.
