NWA PowerrrTrip Review - February 22, 2022

Jax Dane def. Eric Jackson

Dane was interviewed in the ring beforehand where he talked about beating up Crimson in that same building a few months prior. He's talked about Crimson so much that you'd think they plan on revisiting that rivalry soon, but so far, we haven't had much interaction between them at all. I thought it might happen here, but no such luck. Instead, we got a straightforward squash with him killing some random dude name Eric Jackson. It was short and sweet, though, so no complaints.

Chelsea Green def. Kenzie Paige

Green has had a nice run in IMPACT over the last several months, but her NWA stuff has been bizarre. She'll be normal one week and then "Hot Mess" the next. I assume that's the point, but there's no rhyme or reason to it and I don't find it to be very entertaining. On the bright side, she and Paige worked really well together. This had a terrific pace and had a sense of urgency to it. I was honestly more impressed by Paige and hope she can continue to be showcased.

Colby Corino def. Rhett Titus in a 2-Out-of-3 Falls Match

The fact Titus didn't even enter with the ROH World Television Championship all but confirms the recent report that the TV title has been retired and will not be brought back when Ring of Honor starts running shows again in the spring. If Titus can continue to be used by the NWA in the meantime, that'd be cool. I mean, he had a hell of a performance here. This was a strong match with Corino putting in another standout performance. He's the regular in the NWA, so I was happy he won. I don't know why this needed to be two-out-of-three falls, but I'm not complaining because I thoroughly enjoyed it.

NWA World Women's Champion Kamille def. Taryn Terrell

You can tell the NWA is running out of challengers to Kamille's championship when Terrell starts contending for it. Don't get me wrong, I've been high on Terrell's in-ring work in the past, but it's been many years since I last saw anything resembling a quality match from her, especially now that she's been relegated to manager status. This wasn't much of a match as she ran away from Kamille for a good chunk of it, but it was decent enough and had the outcome it should have. I'm just not sure I would have positioned it as the main event, even with a title at stake.

Overall Show

I'm not sure why PowerrrTrip didn't air as its own event on FITE TV, but oh well. At least they're showing the content at all and it's going to be a part of Powerrr. This show was going well up until that underwhelming main event. Again, I understand the decision to close out with a championship match, but it wasn't main event material, at least for this show. All in all, it was a thumbs-up episode and I'm looking forward to watching the rest.
