By Austin Robinson Recently, Dixie Carter teased that she had signed a “big free agent”. While rumors were rampant on who it could be, from John Morrison to Batista, Dixie relieved the tension by announcing her free agent signing as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. As an avid MMA fan, I know plenty about Jackson and my goal with this article is that by the end of it, you will know just as much as I do. Rampage began his MMA career in minor companies, as do most. After starting strong in those companies, he was picked up by Pride Fighting Championships, where his career really took off with his Rampage character. While the UFC is totally legit, Rampage made it feel like wrestling by cutting promos like a wrestler would and he always put on a show. His career in Pride ended when the UFC bought it out, but he was brought in and after a fight with Marvin Eastman, he was given a UFC Title shot against Chuck Liddell. He would dominate and eventually KO Liddell, winning the Title in the process.
He would go to successfully defend the Title against Dan “Hendo” Henderson before losing it to Forrest Griffin at UFC 86. After two straight wins, one against longtime rival Wanderlei Silva, he would face a new-found rival: Rashad Evans. Evans would easily dominate that fight. Once again, Rampage won two straight fights before getting another Title shot against now Champion Jon Jones. Jones would win that fight by Rear Naked Choke and the downfall of Rampage had begun. Five months later, he’d lose to Ryan Bader via decision. After a year-long layoff, he finally returned to the Octagon to face up-and-comer Glover Teixeira, who handled Rampage quite easily, coasting to a decision victory. That fight was in January. Not only was he an MMA Superstar, but he’s also been a top-notch actor for quite a while, appearing in big name TV Shows like King of Queens and guest hosting Monday Night Raw in 2010. However, his most notable acting gig was when he played B.A. Baracus in in the A-Team. Hopefully, this article enlightened you to who Rampage is. Many may not know his past, but now I hope your knowledge of Jackson is better than it was before this article.
