Demonic Flamita def. Rey Horus in a Survival of the Fittest Round 1 Match
The announcers noted beforehand that over the next three weeks, six qualifying matches for the Survival of the Fittest will take place with three taking place on Ring of Honor TV and three taking place on the Week by Week show. Flamita's new heel entrance looks great and there was no way he could lose after that. This was a smart choice for the first match in the tournament given their history and chemistry. It was as fun as you'd expect.
Josh "The Goods" Woods in a Pure Rules Match
Although the stipulation would seem to favor Woods, Young has won his fair share of Pure Rules matches over the years, so this was an interesting and fair matchup. They told a simple story throughout with Young cheating behind the referee's back and Woods finally snapping and throwing a punch at Young. In the end, he was able to secure the victory and get revenge for Young turning on him at the 19th Anniversary Show. They went around 20 minutes and had a really good match. I hope Woods can build off this win and eventually enter the ROH Pure Championship picture.
It was another wrestling-heavy show this week and an enjoyable one at that. Both bouts served a purpose with Flamita vs. Horus kicking off Survival of the Fittest (which will give make more matches meaningful for the next few weeks) and Woods and Young settling their score. Brian Johnson vs. Sledge is the next Survival of the Fittest qualifying match going down on Week by Week and the pre-taped promos by both men on this episode were excellent. Next week, we're getting Eli Isom vs. Dak Draper in a qualifier while Tracy Williams and Rhett Titus defend their ROH World Tag Team Championship against Dragon Lee and Kenny King in a Pure Rules tag team match.
