Ring of Honor Review - October 4, 2021

The Briscoes def. Taylor Rust and Alex Zayne

Rust and Zayne aren't going to be teaming regularly as far as I know and I don't believe there was any real setup for this match, but despite being random, this was a hell of a tag team affair. Rust and Zayne were released from WWE NXT at the same time last month and are tremendously talented. They feel right at home in Ring of Honor, assuming that's where they stay. It was weird for Zayne to lose before he contends for the ROH World Championship on ROH TV soon, but I thoroughly enjoyed this, nonetheless.

The Allure, Miranda Alize, Trish Adora, Willow and NWA World Women's Tag Team Champion Allysin Kay Confronted ROH Women's World Champion Rok-C

Rok-C sounded slightly unsure of herself on the mic, but I'm sure that's just because of her inexperience. She'll improve over time. All in all, she cut a good first promo as champion and it made the title feel important. I got worried when The Allure interrupted her, but then it became clear we were headed for some sort of a multi-woman match when everyone else started coming out. Sure enough, Maria Kanellis-Bennett announced that two three-way matches will be taking place with the six women (not including Rok-C, of course) in the coming weeks with the winners meeting one-on-one before Final Battle. The winner of that will challenge Rok-C for the championship at the pay-per-view. I liked how they laid that all out here and gave viewers multiple matches with the women to look forward to through December.

Violence Unlimited (Brody King, Tony Deppen, Chris Dickinson and Homicide) def. Sledge, Danhausen, PCO and Demonic Flamita

Danhausen put together his team throughout the episode. There's been an established alliance (well, sort of) between Danhausen, PCO and Sledge in recent months, so that made sense. Flamita was a strange addition to the team considering he's a heel, but I guess Danhausen's logic was that he was "very evil." They were no threat to Violence Unlimited, especially when PCO lost his mind (again) at one point and thought he was still tag team partners with King. Admittedly, that was funny. It was an entertaining main event with everyone playing their roles well and Violence Unlimited picking up another win. Anything involving Danhausen is almost always bound to get a thumbs-up from me.

Overall Show

This was a strong show on the whole I thought. The two featured matches came out of nowhere, but both were a treat. The main event served its purpose in solidifying Violence Unlimited as a dominant force while Zayne and Rust impressed in defeat against The Briscoes. The women also got television time and there's a clear direction for them heading into Final Battle. Next week, The OGK will take on Bandido and Rey Horus while Soldiers of Savagery face Dalton Castle and Dak Draper.
