By RJ Marceau A new year, a new set of WWE bold predictions. Below are my six predictions from 2016:
I predicted Kalisto and American Alpha correctly with both of them winning the titles. Kalisto had two terrible reigns as United States Champion but he did hold the belt in 2016. American Alpha is the current SmackDown WWE Tag Team Champions and should hold the belts for a substantial amount of time. Bray Wyatt did win a title in 2016 but he didn’t even wrestle at WrestleMania 32. Instead he was embarrassed by The Rock but ended 2016 strong. I was off on Owens and the Four Horsewomen but Owens did win the Universal Title and Becky, Sasha and Charlotte did have an amazing match at WrestleMania 32. I couldn’t have been more wrong about Wade Barrett since the only thing he won in 2016 was a pink slip. Andrade “Cien” Almas Wins NXT GoldThis prediction is vague because I don’t see Almas winning the NXT Championship as well as the Tag Team Championships but it has been rumored that NXT will reveal a mid-card championship in 2017. Almas has really improved since turning heel a few months back and I could see him being the head of the NXT mid-card division. Almas is a tremendous wrestler and has really thrived in his new role. Almas can stay down in NXT for the full year to own his gimmick and expect a call up in 2018. Tye Dillinger Gets Called Up to the Main Roster and Wins United States or Intercontinental ChampionshipSimilar to Kalisto last year, I think Tye Dillinger will win either United States or Intercontinental Championship. Dillinger has done basically everything in NXT and needs to be called up. As a wrestler he has improved immensely which should help him on the main roster. The longevity to the “10” gimmick is suspect cause history of similar gimmicks flopped on the main roster. Dillinger has earned a spot on the main roster and would love him on SmackDown in 2017. Cedric Alexander Exits the Cruiserweight DivisionWhen Cedric Alexander debuted in the Cruiserweight Classic I was familiar with his ROH work. Alexander cut 25 pounds to enter the tournament and put on some great performances. He is currently in the Cruiserweight division and his feud with Noam Dar is decent. I like how they have a story but the love triangle with Alicia Fox does zero for me. Alexander is a bigger guy so he shouldn’t be regulated to the Cruiserweight division especially since he is a great worker. Like most people SmackDown would be ideal for Alexander to become successful. Finn Balor Wins the 2017 Money in the Bank Ladder MatchWhen Finn Balor got called up in the WWE Draft he was expected to be a top star and became the fist ever WWE Universal Champion. Unfortunately he was injured at SummerSlam so he had to relinquish his title. Since he is on Raw I could so see Stephanie McMahon saying that he must earn the opportunity to become champion again. Balor would then go on to win the 2017 MITB ladder match and win the belt again. Braun Strowman Defeats a Big Star in 2017I left this one pretty wide open because predicting Strowman defeating Undertaker would be really ballsy. I decided to leave it open as well because if he faces a Lesnar, Undertaker or Cena at SummerSlam I could see him winning. I doubt they would have Undertaker lose to him at WrestleMania 33 so that is why I worded as such.
Strowman has been built perfectly going into 2017 so I don’t want him to face a similar fate that Bray Wyatt and Rusev have had in past years. Strowman has also improved in the ring so he should be treated differently and the monster heel he has portrayed. SEE ALSO: "RJ's Two Cents - 2016 WWE Bold Predictions"
