Monday's Raw was very forgettable with nothing major occurring besides the first face-to-face encounter between John Cena and AJ Styles. This was a great moment and things heated up when Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson (The Club) showed up. After it seemed like Styles and The Club had gone their separate ways it was very exciting to see Styles attack Cena. The WWE has been in desperate need of new top heels so the Styles turn was necessary but I don’t think it was the best decision.
Styles is one of the top faces of the company and instead of turning Roman Reigns who has elicited major heat they turn AJ. AJ is very popular with the WWE Universe and I don’t think they will boo him. Maybe if AJ turned on Sami Zayn or Enzo & Cass the crowd would boo him but John Cena has been 50-50 when it comes to crowd reaction for 10 years.
I was hoping they would save this feud for SummerSlam but it seems like the two will cross paths at Money in the Bank. AJ needs a win and this will definitely last at least 3 PPVs. If the WWE was smart they would add Styles and John Cena to the MITB ladder match. When Cena is about to win the briefcase have The Club interfere and Styles wins the briefcase. At Battleground, AJ Styles beats John Cena via interference by The Club. At SummerSlam, they have Cena vs. Styles for the briefcase. If The Club interferes AJ must surrender the briefcase.
The WWE could rewrite the wrong from last years match between Seth Rollins and John Cena with Styles beating Cena clean. This feud can be kickass but they need to book it correctly. I am afraid since they screwed up Cena vs. Owens last year. Styles isn’t being buried, people, but he needs to beat “Big Match John” or he will look like a loser to fans.
Styles has been great in 2016 and the losses haven’t affected my views on him. He has been simply phenomenal and I can’t wait to see what the summer brings for AJ Styles.
