RJ’s Two Cents - How Lucha Underground Booked Aztec Warfare Better Than WWE's Royal Rumble

First off if you're not watching Lucha Underground you need to start because this promotion is amazing and their matches are always entertaining. Last week, Fenix relinquished his Gift of the Gods Championship to get a title match vs. Mil Muertes. These two had a great feud in season 1 of Lucha Underground and they continued right off their feud in an amazing title match. Fenix pulled off the upset and beat Mil Muertes for the Lucha Underground Championship.

After the match, Catrina announced that this week on Lucha Underground Fenix will defend the Lucha Underground Championship in Aztec Warfare and he will start #1 and Mil Muertes will enter at #20. Fenix, if you don’t watch Lucha Underground, has the same size and look as Kalisto. This is how you stack the odds on an underdog that you don’t want to retain his belt. Aztec Warfare is Lucha Underground's version of the Royal Rumble.

The WWE however tried to stack the odds on one of the biggest wrestlers on the roster in Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble. Reigns didn’t retain but he lasted to the final three men. The underdog story wasn’t really underdog because he isn’t the size of an underdog. Reigns is still in the title match at WrestleMania so the logic to keep the title away from him is nowhere.

Aztec Warfare hasn’t happened on TV yet so I can’t wait to see what route they take. I doubt Fenix will win with guys such as Cage, Mil Muertes, Prince Puma, Pentagon Jr. and Rey Mysterio in the matchup but I think he could continue his feud with Mil Muertes into Ultimate Lucha. The WWE wants Reigns to get over so bad as a babyface that they were hoping to have him defy the odds and be an underdog. However it is very hard to have a muscle bond guy at 265 pounds be considered an underdog.

The displaying of the odds and the underdog #1 entrant is how Lucha Underground booked Aztec Warfare better than the Royal Rumble and we have no idea who will win this bout. The Rumble was down to Triple H and Roman Reigns before the match and Triple H won. Aztec Warfare should be great and I advise you to watch it live or watch it online.
