RJ’s Two Cents - My Top 3 Favorite Lucha Underground Wrestlers (As of Season 2)

I was a casual viewer of Lucha Underground Season 1 but it wasn’t till the recent season of Lucha Underground that I have become a weekly viewer of the show. So far in Season 2 there have been five episodes and if you aren’t watching I would definitely recommend the product especially since it’s only a one hour show.

I don’t have the El Rey Network here at school but you can access the show online. At first I will admit it was hard to get invested in a product of people I didn’t really know. Over the first five episodes I have started connecting with the program and in this article I will reveal my Top 3 Favorite Lucha Underground Wrestlers.

Honorable Mention: Jack Evans

Jack Evans is a guy that I have never seen before watching Lucha Underground. He has a very athletic move set and very flashy in the ring. As a heel he cut a funny promo this week by taking the microphone away from Melissa Santos. Evans is currently in a program with Drago but has been able to get the better of the luchador by defeating Drago on the February 10th edition of Lucha Underground. Evans is a great cocky heel for Lucha Underground and has a steady feud with Drago.

3. Prince Puma/Pentagon Jr.

These two guys for me are even. I don’t like one more then the other and they are both great characters. It couldn’t be more fitting because they are currently feuding and it seems like the winner of this feud would be the next one in line for Mil Muertes' Lucha Underground Championship.

These guys have had great matches and I can’t wait for their match next week. Prince Puma has already held the Lucha Underground title so it would be fitting for Pentagon Jr. to get his shot next. Both these guys are unique characters and are well liked by the temple fans.

2. Cage

I am a fan of the high flyers or wrestlers with an athletic move set but how can you hate a big bruiser. Cage is a genetic freak and an absolute monster. “I’m not a man, I’m a Machine!!” and Cage definitely is a machine. In his Ultimate Lucha match against The Mack he displayed his aggressive side by curb stomping him on a concrete block.

Right now in Lucha, Cage is feuding with Johnny Mundo (John Morrison). It will be interesting to see where it goes because Mundo beat him in the latest edition of Lucha Underground but he had the interference from Taya Valkyrie. Cage will look to settle the score with the “Shaman of Sexy” in the near future.

1. PJ Black “The Darewolf”

To WWE fans this is the man formerly known as Justin Gabriel but for me I was always a big fan of his starting back in NXT season 1. I figured he wouldn’t get higher then a certain level but if there was a cruiserweight championship I think he could’ve succeeded. Instead the WWE wasted the guy and eventually he asked for his release last year.

He was underutilized and his move to Lucha Underground seems like a good move. He has appeared in two episodes vs. The Mack and vs. Jack Evans but lost both matches. He lost to Evans due to distraction from Drago and showed some storyline progression with him throwing the nunchucks. He is amazing in the ring and is definitely my favorite wrestler right now in Lucha Underground.

I didn’t list Rey Mysterio because he hasn’t wrestled yet but I wanted to focus on Lucha Underground talent over the WWE wash ups.
