RJ’s Two Cents - Top 10 Favorite WWE Promos as a Fan

When it comes to the WWE I am a sucker for a great promo. These promos explain the story being told for the match and the background behind the feud. Over the years, I have seen many great promos but I have had the challenge to rank my top 10 favorite. This list was probably the hardest list I have had to make since there are so many good promos in my 13 years of being a fan. Of all time my favorite promo is The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin from WrestleMania 17, which is amazing.


Honorable Mentions:

Bayley vs. Sasha Banks from NXT: Brooklyn is the best divas promo I have ever seen so I threw it on as a honorable mention.

10. Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero: 2005 SummerSlam

In 2005, Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio battled all year and culminated with a Custody of Dominic match at SummerSlam '05. Eddie faced Rey at the Great American Bash and if he lost he wouldn’t tell the WWE Universe his secret about Rey. Rey defeated Eddie but Eddie still told the WWE Universe that Dominic was Eddie’s son not Rey’s. The story was great and the promo set up this match perfectly.

9. Kevin Nash vs. HHH: 2003 Judgement Day

When Kevin Nash came back in 2003 he was put into the fold and defending his friends HHH and Shawn Michaels. He had to choose and eventually after HHH attacked him he sided with HBK. The match at Judgement Day was for the World Heavyweight Championship. The match wasn’t great but I am a big fan of the promo for this matchup.

8. Ric Flair vs. Undertaker: WrestleMania 18

Ric Flair at the time was part owner of the WWE and interfered in the match at No Way Out between the Rock and Undertaker. Flair cost the match for Undertaker with Flair explaining he wanted the best man to win. Undertaker challenged Flair to a match a WrestleMania with Flair saying no. Undertaker attacked his best friend Arn Anderson and son David Flair leading to Flair saying yes.

7. Daniel Bryan vs. HHH: WrestleMania 30

This promo literally made you want Daniel Bryan to win against HHH and main event WrestleMania. The promo goes from the struggles Bryan faces and the road he faces against the Authority. A great promo with a great song. The match was amazing as well.  

6. John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt: WrestleMania 30

Another promo from WrestleMania, which used story telling and a great song to combine a great promo. Bray was challenging John Cena's legacy and told a great story on trying to get into John’s head. The promo is a classic and helped the build to a decent encounter.

5. Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels: WrestleMania 24

This match was a retirement match between Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels. The promo is amazing. Ric Flair wants to face Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania and if he can't win then his career should be over. Michaels calls Ric Flair old yeller and gets a good laugh out of me.  

4. Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle: WrestleMania 21

When it came down to these 4 it could be interchangeable. All four have different elements and have great stories. I decided that out of the four that Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels was #4. The story dating back to 1996 is amazing with Kurt Angle being jealous of Shawn Michaels. The promo was amazing but their match was even better.

3. CM Punk vs. John Cena: Money in the Bank 2011

This match was great and the promo was as good. The Summer of Punk was great and this promo incorporated his pipe bomb. John Cena and Vince McMahon were great as well but him threatening to leave and his cause carries this promo.  

2. Seth Rollins vs. John Cena: SummerSlam 2015

The attachment with this match is unbelievable. This is my favorite match as a fan especially being live for even over any of the matches at WrestleMania XXX. This match was everything I expected and then some. The promo between Cena and Rollins is amazing and tells the story of Cena possibly winning his 16th WWE Championship and Rollins being the first ever U.S. and WWE Champion.

1. Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker: WrestleMania 26

This match is easily my favorite WWE promo of since I have been a fan of the WWE. Shawn Michaels trying to get retribution for losing to the Undertaker at WrestleMania 25. His road to redemption is long but good. I don’t want to ruin the promo but it is amazing.
