RJ’s Two Cents - Who Should Have Won WWE's Main Slammy Awards

This year's Slammy awards show was disappointing. Most winners weren’t the right people and the show featured tons of rematches. The Slammys aren’t the most prestigious awards but the WWE Universe has failed to award the right winners. Here are the 6 top awards and whom the WWE Universe chose compared to who I thought should have won.

WWE Superstar of the Year

WWE Universe: Seth Rollins

RJ’s Two Cents: Seth Rollins

The WWE Universe got this decision right and after last year with Roman Reigns winning I was afraid that Seth Rollins would get screwed. Rollins was hands down the Superstar of the Year in 2015 and should’ve won in 2014 as well. Rollins won the main event of WrestleMania, held the title for 7 months, beat John Cena for the United States Championship and beat the Vigilante, Sting. Besides Rollins, Owens would be #2 on my list.

WWE Match of the Year

WWE Universe: Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker

RJ’s Two Cents: John Cena vs. Kevin Owens

When it comes to the Slammy awards, the WWE Universe tends to lean on recent matches or moments as winners. Out of all the nominees the Lesnar vs. Undertaker was the most recent encounter but wasn’t the match of the year. I would place Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena vs. Seth Rollins over that match as well with my match of the year with John Cena vs. Kevin Owens at Elimination Chamber. This was the first encounter of these men and showcased amazing in ring action with Owens shocking the WWE Universe and beating John Cena in his first match. Lesnar and Undertaker have encountered multiple times and this was far from their best match.

WWE Diva of the Year

WWE Universe: Nikki Bella

RJ’s Two Cents: Nikki Bella

WWE using the Miss Universe blunder for this award wasn’t surprising. Even with R-Truth playing Steve Harvey. The rightful diva of the year was Nikki Bella and I was glad she won. Besides her maybe Sasha Banks or Charlotte but they were more successful in NXT so I don’t know if that would count for WWE Diva of the Year.

OMG Shocking Moment of the Year

WWE Universe: Kalisto Salida del Sol from TLC

RJ’s Two Cents: Seth Rollins cashes in the MITB at WrestleMania 31

This award is nitpicking but when it comes to who should’ve won it had to be Seth Rollins cashing in. This was the biggest moment of the year and arguably WrestleMania history. The Salida del Sol was amazing, I love Kalisto and I was there live but Rollins cashing in the briefcase was a way bigger moment since Rollins won and the Lucha Dragons lost.

Breakout Star of the Year

WWE Universe: Neville

RJ’s Two Cents: Kevin Owens

After the outcome of this award, the WWE should consider scrapping the award show. How in the blue hell did Neville win Breakout Star of the Year? Granted the other nominees other then Owens had no shot but the guy has done nothing!! He hasn’t won a title, been in big time matches or feuds and hasn’t even been on Raw for a few weeks. Owens could’ve won Superstar of the Year with how amazing his year was. He won the NXT Title, beat John Cena in his first match, won the IC Championship and great matches with Cesaro, Dean Ambrose and John Cena. I know it’s a fan favorite show with babyfaces winning but WWE should have rigged the voting and have KO win.

Tag Team of the Year

WWE Universe: The Usos

RJ’s Two Cents: The New Day

Robbed like Owens was The New Day. The only team that should’ve even been close to beating the New Day was Kidd & Cesaro. The Usos had the titles for 2 months and were off TV till last month. How do they win Tag Team of the year when they were only around for a quarter of the year? The New Day won the tag titles TWICE and are the hottest act in the company. The WWE should have stepped in but since the awards are meaningless they continued to let the show become a joke.

Besides these awards I didn’t have a problem with the other winners since most of the awards were pointless but the best category was BEST Original WWE Network program with all nominees having a chance to win. The Slammys are pointless since most the time the winners don’t deserve it, making it a popularity contest.
