The past few years the Royal Rumble has been very predictable with John Cena, Batista, Roman Reigns and Triple H winning the match. The matches have been awful as well besides last year's. This year however is probably the best Rumble in 10 years with the talent in this match and there are four-five guys I believe could win. In no specific order here are the five guys I believe could win the 2017 Royal Rumble Match.
Goldberg, Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker
Instead of doing three individual entries I have decided to clump all the part timers in just one spot. I have always been in the mindset that the Rumble should be a new star on the rise who could use the push. Goldberg, Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker are all old men that don’t need to win the match. They draw enough viewership that not winning the Rumble won’t affect them. Goldberg vs. Lesnar doesn’t need the title as well as whoever The Undertaker is facing. If the WWE goes this route with a part timer winning I hope they can make it compelling at least.
I know most people are probably against “The Mountain Among Men” winning the 2017 Royal Rumble but has anyone been built up better then him? Besides the established star I don’t see anyone else who would be credible enough to win the match. Strowman has improved immensely since the brand split and should be taken as a threat to win the match.
This selection is based on speculation that Finn Balor will return at the Royal Rumble. Balor has been sidelined since SummerSlam. Balor returning to knock off one of the part times and winning the match would be an ultimate rub and he deserves the push since he never lost his title.
Honorable Mentions: Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin
SmackDown doesn’t have anyone that sticks out to me that could win. I would say Bray Wyatt but I don’t see him knocking off any of the big stars. Corbin is a push as well since SmackDown hasn’t really talked up the match and seems like a Raw Superstar will win. Samoa Joe would be the biggest shock and surprise but I would be shocked if he won as well. I could see him having a similar performance that AJ Style had last year. A good showing but not winning.
Even though I wouldn’t be ecstatic if a part timer won at least the winner isn’t set in stone or predictable like it has been in the past. The 2017 Royal Rumble should be good and I can’t wait to see who wins.
