RJ’s Two Cents - Why Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker May Flop at WWE WrestleMania 32

WrestleMania 32 is in less than two weeks and even though I am excited for the event the build for the show has been lackluster. The WWE announced the three marquee matches about a month ago and it seems like they haven’t done anything since then to get fans intrigued for the show. Triple H vs. Roman Reigns has been focused around them brawling each Monday Night Raw and not about how Reigns has been one of the people The Authority has targeted over the years.

Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose in a street fight is cool on paper but what has Ambrose really done to make the casual fan think he has any shot on beating Lesnar? Yeah, he may be crazy or a lunatic but “The Beast” has beaten him up on multiple occasions. When it comes to Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker we have tons of questions about this match. What is the Undertaker’s motive? What does he have to lose? If Shane wins what will he change about the WWE? And why should fans want Undertaker to win?

This match in my opinion should be very entertaining due to the Hell in a Cell stipulation and the stakes if Shane wins. The issue is this match could flop due to multiple reasons.

1. Vince/The Authority Interference

Graham knows this as well as other people who know me when it comes to the WWE nothing irritates me more than a match riddled with interference. I am pretty sure Vince or The Authority will interfere but I am hoping it isn’t a lot. I know a lot of people liked last years match with HHH vs. Sting but even though it was cool to see NWO and DX come out it was 15 years too late and the interference annoyed me. The post match stuff seemed so reminiscent to John Cena and The Rock at WM29 and was stupid with HHH using a sledgehammer to win but Sting respects him.

Limit the interference and if they use interference hopefully a Seth Rollins or Balor Club debut/return to screw The Undertaker would create buzz for Monday Night Raw.

2. The Match Is Missing Motivation for The Undertaker/Fans

Shane McMahon's motive for this match is to win so he can get control of Monday Night Raw and keep the WWE in his family's name. Boom, he has motives and a reason to cheer for him. When it comes to The Undertaker however he isn’t in cahoots with Vince or has a grudge with Shane. If The Undertaker wins then The Authority is still in charge and that is it. No future title shot, no retirement if he loses, nothing at all. The Undertaker's streak isn’t in tact so even that isn’t a motivation for him to win.

The match could be great but why should fans cheer for The Undertaker or want him to win? If The Undertaker wins The Authority would still be in power and that is exactly what the fans don’t want. The lasting effect on this match will be on the outcome because if Shane wins the ramifications will change the WWE and if Taker wins, the WWE will be the same old Authority since 2014.

I am invested in this bout and this is the match I am looking forward to out of the whole card but they must add a new stipulation for The Undertaker or for the Roman Reigns vs. HHH match. The Authority has been so overdone that they need to disband. A cool stipulation would be if The Undertaker wins he could choose who is in charge of Raw. Shane pulls out all the stops but doesn’t beat him. The next night The Undertaker says he respects the hell out of Shane McMahon and decides to put Shane in charge after saying he wouldn’t go against The Authority. I doubt they would do this but it would better then The Undertaker winning and The Authority is still in charge.
