Over the past year, I have documented my frustrations with The Usos. I like the team because they are very entertaining but they were the same team for over three years. They added face paint but besides that they still crowded the tag title scene and didn’t have any real changes. The team saw backlash when they teamed with their cousin, Roman Reigns but they still were booked as faces.
Once they were drafted to SmackDown Live, I was hoping the WWE would turn these two heel and they did it. It took a few weeks to change their ring gear and music but I love the transformation. They are thrusted back into the title picture but as heels, it’s fresh. I don’t see them beating Slater & Rhyno due to interference from American Alpha. This feud is already formed and can be a great feud without the titles being involved.
The Usos' new look is reminiscent to their cousin Rosey and uncle Jamal attire/gimmick from 2002 and it fits the heel gimmick perfectly. The street clothes and their mannerisms make you want to boo them. The new heel tactics with them attacking the knee of their opponents has really got the crowd against them.
As heels I believe this will be a career renaissance especially since the group’s first run as heels was forgettable. They were just two regular guys with a bad manager and the crowd gave two craps. They thrived as faces for many years and I think this recent turn should catapult them as top heels in the company. The group has the look and actions as a great heel team so it will be hard for the WWE to screw this up.
