RJ’s Two Cents - Why WWE Needs to Sign Prince Puma

When the WWE announced that they were holding a Global Cruiserweight Series there was one name that came to my mind that the WWE needed to sign. Look no further than the face of Lucha Underground, Prince Puma. After Graham recommended Lucha Underground to me I decided to check out the product. The first episode was good but I didn’t know anyone but Prince Puma stood out. Even with the luchador gimmick I said this guy has a chance to be a big player in the WWE.

After doing some research I found out that the man that portrays Prince Puma is widely known on the independent scene as Ricochet. The WWE has announced some competitors for the Global Cruiserweight Series and so far it’s Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Rich Swann, Zack Sabre Jr., Noam Dar, Akira Tozawa and Ho Ho Lun. This series should be entertaining but imagine if Prince Puma was added to this series. The matches he could have with Gargano, Swann, Sabre Jr. and even Kota Ibushi who is rumored to be involved in the series.

Reports have said that since he is signed with Lucha Underground that Puma won’t be available until Season 3 airs on television. However that won’t be until summer of 2017. What is puzzling to me is that he isn’t allowed by contract to compete in other companies but as Ricochet he has been performing for PWG, Dragon Gate and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

So could the WWE have him wok as Ricochet and have him compete in the series. The WWE needs to find a loophole in his contract because this man is definitely worth the investment. Lucha is having financial problems so maybe the WWE can pull a similar deal they did with ECW and pay Lucha to have Puma in the series. Lucha Underground would get awareness and financial compensation and the WWE gets one of if not the top independent wrestlers in the world in their tournament.

The WWE could have him in the tournament and make him a star. Once his contract is up in 2017 then have him come back to the WWE. He would be turning 29 in late 2017 so he is relatively young and has many years in the business. If the WWE wants this tournament to be the best it can be, pull out the checkbook and find a way to get Prince Puma in the WWE.
