RJ’s Two Cents - Why WWE Roadblock Is a Good Idea

The WWE made an announcement today that the house show on March 12th from Toronto, Ontario will be a WWE Network exclusive show by the name of WWE Roadblock. The name makes sense since it’s the “roadblock” between now and WrestleMania 32. It’s not the most creative name but I don’t mind it. The WWE has announced that the main event will be Triple H vs. Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Heavyweight Title.

The WWE decided last year to start streaming WWE exclusive shows/PPVs with Elimination Chamber, MSG Special and Beast in the East. WWE Roadblock will be the first exclusive show of this year and shouldn’t disappoint. Other matches rumored are Sheamus vs. Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar vs. Luke Harper and The New Day, AJ Styles and Chris Jericho are advertised.

This special is a good idea because this gives them the opportunity to make new stories or actually shake up things for WrestleMania. Do I expect titles to change hands? No, but I think the WWE could have Ambrose win to get buzz going into Monday Night Raw. Ambrose wins and that puts the whole main event in jeopardy and would attract a lot of buzz.

Beast In the East didn’t have notable moments besides Finn Balor winning the NXT title from Kevin Owens but did feature good in ring action. This special shouldn’t disappoint in that department so as an avid fan it will be good. This probably won’t attract a lot of fans but could attract the casual viewer to watch the show by signing up for the WWE Network. This would be the hook to get new subscribers and in a business perspective not a bad idea.

The show probably won’t have much surprises but the title match makes it a must see. Brock Lesnar being on the card also helps gain more fan viewership. Turning these house shows into bigger events will also boost attendance so the WWE are in a win-win scenario.

Another show on the Road to WrestleMania will help the build and I can’t wait to see what happens on March 12th at WWE Roadblock.
