![]() By RJ Marceau I know I am not in the minority here when I say Monday Night Raw has been lacking since SummerSlam. The show continues to drag and it has been the same old crap each and every week. I didn’t watch the show live because I didn’t expect the show to be that good since the build has been lackluster. Kickoff Show: Rusev Defeated Big Cass via Count-outThe whole storyline is stupid especially with how the roles are being played. The sympathetic husband is a bad guy for someone hitting on his wife. Illogical WWE but this match was a total waste of time with the match ending in a count-out victory. The match did nothing for anyone involved and sucks for the WWE Universe because this stupid feud will continue. Enzo & Cass have cooled off on the main roster and it doesn’t help when the booking of them has been horrible. I was hoping this feud would be over soon but it seems like it will continue like anyone even gives two craps. Cesaro & Sheamus Defeated The New Day to Become the New Raw Tag Team ChampionsBefore I analyze the match I will say The New Day are still very over and had a great run as tag team champions. The match was actually really good but them dropping the titles wasn’t a shock. It was very predictable that once they broke the record that they were going to drop the titles. I have warmed up to the team of Cesaro and Sheamus. They should be good champions but they are better individuals than a team and The New Day is way better together then apart. I don’t want to take away from the match but the biggest takeaway was The New Day dropping the titles then Cesaro & Sheamus winning. It will be interesting to see what the future is for The New Day but new champions are refreshing for Monday Night Raw. Sami Zayn Defeated Braun Strowman via Lasting 10 minutesThe whole concept of this match was stupid if you ask me. Nothing changed here because Strowman easily could have pinned him but he let him up. I don’t see who this helps because even though Sami “lasted” 10 mins he was rag dolled for about nine minutes. It was even more illogical when Braun acknowledged last night on Raw how he let Sami last the 10 mins which was true. The whole feud has been weird, the match concept was dumb and Mick Foleys involvement has been less than stellar. This feud should wrap up soon with Braun being a heavy favorite going into the Royal Rumble. Seth Rollins Defeated Chris JerichoFor a match that I thought was very predictable with Rollins winning I was very impressed with the match and the outcome. These guys had amazing chemistry and conducted a great match. Jericho has reinvented himself with his new heel persona and really helped get the fans on Rollins' side. At the end I was convinced Jericho might steal a win when he locked in the second Walls of Jericho but Rollins reversing the Codebreaker into the Pedigree was a great visual and finish. This feud seems like it will be winding down going into WrestleMania 33 with both men going in different directions. Rich Swann Defeated TJ Perkins and The Brian Kendrick to Retain the WWE Cruiserweight ChampionshipThis match was very forgettable and it didn’t help it lasted six minutes. When you have six minutes you can only do so much to make the match good. The only thing from this match that will be remembered is Neville’s heel turn but I don’t trust the WWE with this since the whole division has been misused since coming back a few months ago. Charlotte Flair Defeated Sasha Banks to Win the Raw Women’s ChampionshipWhen I saw the result and then the comments on how the match was boring I had to watch it. The WWE had single-handily made Sasha Banks a loser. The match for the first 15 minutes was a bunch of random roll-ups and slow boring wrestling. The announcers kept talking about the significance of not wasting all their energy in the beginning but the match never picked up. They had all four falls happen in the last 12 minutes with the last one being so illogical. Sasha is staring at the clock with three seconds left and taps. Give me a break. Charlotte winning in OT was a buzzkill because Sasha literally is a B+ player. She is like a team that wins in the regular season but once in the playoffs can never win. This is a side note to the match but the zoom ins on the fans making it seem so dramatic is awful especially since half the people weren’t even paying attention. Sasha Banks has become damaged goods honestly and I hope this is the last match between these two for a while because it has been so tiresome flip flopping the title over eight months no one even cares anymore. This should lead to Bayley and Charlotte but Bayley will probably job to Charlotte on PPV like Sasha. Kevin Owens Defeated Roman Reigns via DQ to Retain his WWE Universal ChampionshipThis match seemed like a main event of Monday Night Raw and the ending screamed Raw. Jericho hitting Owens with the Codebreaker however continued the tension between them so I hope they do that match at WrestleMania. Rollins coming out for no apparent season was odd because it wasn’t like Jericho and Owens attacked Reigns. The whole ending was reminiscent of a ending to Raw so it didn’t do much for me. The rematch will happen and I have zero desire to see Reigns as champion.
I didn’t have high expectations for this show and I don’t even know if it met my low standards. The show was basically throw away with the only notable and fresh thing happening was Sheamus & Cesaro winning the titles which was almost a given. Raw really needs to shake it up with the content because MNR was decent last night but none of the feuds really have my interest besides the eventual split of Jeri-KO.
