Smarky Re-Cap: WWE NXT - January 2, 2013

Jesus Christ, I didn't realize how many shows WWE puts on in a week until now. Raw, Smackdown, Superstars, NXT, Main Event, Saturday Morning Slam. It's actually somewhat ridiculous. Anyways, this weeks NXT was pretty good, but the fact that it was taped about a month ago kind of hurt it a bit since a lot of the guys they used weren't up to date with what they are now. Other than that, great show. It began with the camera cutting to the ring in the middle of the intro, to show the Shield beating the crap out of two nobodies. Dusty Rhodes would come out and announce that what the Shield is doing needs to stop, only to be face smashed with Dean Ambrose's amazing mic skills. People like to say that Ambrose is like a mix of the Joker and Brian Pillman, but I personally think that he is a whole new type that can't really be compared to anyone. After Ambrose finished his promo about how the Shield is taking over, Dusty Rhodes told them that Seth Rollins will defend his NXT Championship against Corey Graves in the main event. Then Roman Reigns ruined everything by opening his mouth and trying to make a joke. Reigns should stick to being the silent muscle of the group, because his promos are pretty awkward.

Bo Dallas makes his way to the ring for his match against Epico. During the match, some "Rosa Mendes" chants break out. I'm not sure why they wanted to see her so bad, as she's honestly not that good looking. A 9.8/10 at best. Some Carlito chants break out too, and I was surprised they didn't edit them out like they would've done on Smackdown. Guess they don't care as much. During the match, Epico hits Bo Dallas with a dropkick that makes Bo spin around a few times like a Looney Tunes character getting punched in the face by a boxer. Didn't like it all, but I guess not everyone can be Dolph Ziggler. Bo Dallas would go on to win the match after hitting a Spear. Not sure how I feel about him using the Spear, especially with the Edge taunts before hand, as it kinda shows that he doesn't really have any individuality. After the match, Primo and Epico try to gang up on Bo, but Michael McGillicutty comes to fend them off. I like that they are using McGillicutty, because he's an awesome talent, but I feel as if face McGillicutty is just going to be terrible. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
We come back from commercial break to Sasha Banks making her way to the ring to face Tamina Snuka. Fun tidbit that Regal mentioned during the match was that Sasha Banks is related to Snoop Dogg. I was also half-expecting Regal to say that he wrestled Snoop Dogg in Japan long ago, as William Regal has seemed to wrestle a relative of every NXT Superstar, whether they are a wrestler or not. Tamina finished off Sasha Banks with a Superfly Splash. The match was a little quicker than I liked, as both women were doing pretty god in the ring. Miles better than what WWE puts on their main shows.

Kassius Ohno and Leo Kruger make their way to the ring. As a huge fan of both men, I was happy to see them team together. They could be an awesome tag team, especially since their sadistic characters work well together. Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel make their entrance. Good to see them both, as any time I get to see them wrestle is a rare treat. Kruger would go on to pick up the win for his team by pinning Gabriel after hitting what looked like a Snapmare Driver. The match was easily the match of the night, and both teams had great chemistry, especially Gabriel and Kidd. Kassius Ohno did great in the match, but since he is so damn good, it was expected. Hopefully when he's called up to the main roster he can reunite the Kings of Wrestling with Cesaro, as I think that would be pretty awesome.

We come back from the break to see Corey Graves make his way to the ring for his NXT Championship match against Rollins. I would like Graves's look if he didn't have that stupid naval tattoo. It's pretty distracting. I still haven't warmed up to Zema Ion for that same reason. As you see, I judge a book by their cover a lot. Seth Rollins comes out to no music, making it clear that this was taped before TLC. Random thought, would it hurt more to be body-slammed with a belt on? I feel like that would be falling over and landing on your keys. Anyways, the two belted Superstars being to go at it in the Championship match. Both guys wrestling in pants with no shirt makes it look like a fight broke out at an underground rock concert, especially with Rollins's hair and Graves's tattoos.

After a pretty decent 5 or 6 minutes of action, Graves slapped a really cool looking Modified Figure-Four Leglock on Rollins, which would be broken up by the Shield. Dusty Rhodes would come out and send out the entire locker-room to help Graves, but the Shield easily disposed of them all. After making menacing faces at the crowd, the Shield would be interupted by Big E Langston, who made a his way to the ring (very slowly I might add). The Shield would back off from the ginormous man, and Dusty Rhodes would announce that Rollins will defend his NXT Championship against Big E Langston next week. It was a little odd that he didn't say that the Shield would be banned from ringside, because the Shield could just do the same thing they did this week and help Rollins retain via DQ. Still very interested to see Rollins vs. Big E next week, as it should be a pretty good match. Overall, decent show, with the tag team match being match of the night. Still sad that NXT isn't really available for most people, but hopefully it can find a place on the WWE Network (when it finally launches in 2057 that is).
