Grayson Waller def. Ikemen Jiro
You may as well get to used to these two facing each other on 205 Live because I'm pretty sure that, following the latest round of releases, they're the only two members of the Cruiserweight division who still appear regularly on the program. They're both very good, but how long will it be before they're shown the door as well? On the bright side, this was a quality contest. Jiro is a fan favorite and I was slightly surprised he lost, but Waller may have needed the win more to get back on track.
Josh Briggs def. Joe Gacy
Both of these guys were involved in the NXT Breakout Tournament but were eliminated in the first round. They have potential and can move around really well given their size, but that pre-match promo from Briggs was as basic as could be. This was your standard hoss fight as it was a hard-hitting affair and they made the most of the time they had. Oh, and if you were wondering why two heavyweights competed on 205 Live, it's because WWE is now claiming that wrestlers outside of the weight division will now "occasionally" compete on the purple brand. In other brands, they fired everyone else in the division and need to fulfill their international obligations with this show somehow.
205 Live has been a dead brand for at least a year or two now, especially with the NXT Cruiserweight Championship essentially becoming exclusive to NXT, but all of these releases haven't helped matters at all. As previously noted, Waller and Jiro may be the only two Cruiserweights left outside of those who usually only appear on NXT. In other words, expect more matches like Briggs vs. Gacy happening more often going forward. This was a solid show as at least these up-and-comers were showcased and the in-ring action was enjoyable.
