Team Lorcan (Oney Lorcan, Humberto Carrillo, Isiah "Swerve" Scott, Gentleman Jack Gallagher and Akira Tozawa) def. Team Gulak (WWE Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak, Angel Garza, Ariya Daivari, Tony Nese and Mike Kanellis) in a Captain's Challenge Match
205 Live does multi-man matches better than any other brand in WWe, so this was a cool attraction for this edition of 205 Live. It was basically a traditional Survivor Series tag team elimination match with Cruiserweights. There wasn't anything on the line, mind you, but one has to assume that Carrillo will be next in line to challenge for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship based off how he was the sole survivor here (even if Gulak got himself intentionally disqualified). The rest of the match featured a ton of terrific wrestling, solid storytelling, and a logical order of eliminations. Among other things I enjoyed about this bout included the fresh faces (Scott and Garza) getting some time to shine, Gulak and Lorcan furthering their feud, and Tozawa and Gallagher teasing tension.
I loved how this show solely consisted of the Captain's Challenge match. 205 Live doesn't have a very large roster, so I appreciate it whenever they can utilize most members of their roster in one blockbuster bout like they did here. It was a very simple show that accomplished a lot with just one matchup. You can't do this type of format all the time, but it is effective and entertaining. Next week, Kalisto will take on Ariya Daivari. On a side note, I'm wondering what will become of 205 Live when SmackDown Live moves to FOX in October. I'd be all for it being taped live after NXT at Full Sail University on Wednesday nights, but that's just my opinion.
