Kalisto def. Lio Rush to Qualify for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Fatal 4-Way Match at the Royal Rumble
From Akira Tozawa to Noam Dar to Cedric Alexander, Rush has worked well with everyone he has gone up against during his run on 205 Live so far and Kalisto was no exception. This was a very fun match while it lasted with a great pace and strong showings from both guys. Rush seemed to be on the ascent before his recent loss to Alexander, so I'm surprised Kalisto ended up advancing to the Royal Rumble over him. I have no complaints, though, because Kalisto and Murphy have had amazing chemistry in the past.
Akira Tozawa def. Drew Gulak to Qualify for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Fatal 4-Way Match at the Royal Rumble
I feel like I've seen Tozawa and Gulak face each other no less than a dozen times over the past two years, and they just wrapped up their rivalry in a Street Fight not too long ago. Thus, I felt it was too soon to be going back to this bout, but at least it was enjoyable and it helped that there were high stakes with the winner earning a spot in the Cruiserweight Championship Fatal 4-Way at the Rumble. Similar to the previous match, I was not expecting Tozawa to emerge victorious, but at least he's a fresh face in the title picture.
This episode was completely focused on the qualifiers for the Cruiserweight title match at the Rumble and both bouts delivered. The matches weren't must-see by any means, but it made for a very entertaining and wrestling-heavy show this week, so the hour flew by. It's also worth noting that Drake Maverick mentioned in a backstage segment that he was working with the other general managers (which are now nonexistent) to bring more talent to his roster, indicating we'll be seeing an influx of fresh faces on the brand in the coming weeks.
