WWE 205 Live Review - July 23, 2019

Humberto Carrillo and Raul Mendoza def. The Lucha House Party

Carrillo and Mendoza have teamed up quite a bit in NXT and have always made for an exciting pairing. After the strong showing they had here, I really hope Mendoza becomes a permanent addition to the 205 Live roster. This was a super exciting tag team affair where everyone involved looked great. This is what we should be seeing from Lucha House Party on the main roster more often instead of the silliness they've been a part of so far.

Oney Lorcan def. Tony Isner

Lorcan has been on a roll recently with various wins, so this squash served to further his momentum. This with all Lorcan, who put Isner away in roughly one minute. He came across like a total beast in the process and the match was exactly what it needed to be. If I had to guess, Lorcan could be next in line for a shot at the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, which I'd definitely be down for.

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak def. Isiah "Swerve" Scott (Non-Title)

​Scott only just debuted on NXT TV a few weeks ago as part of the NXT Breakout Tournament, so him appearing on 205 Live so soon after is a total thrill. As I've said before, he's an incredible athlete and I've been a fan of his work dating back to his days in Lucha Underground. The outcome of this contest was never in doubt, but Scott had a tremendous performance and had fantastic chemistry with Gulak. They told a terrific story with Gulak targeting Scott's hand throughout and Scott coming close to securing the victory on multiple occasions. I'd love to see more matches like this in the future that pit stars from NXT against 205 Live mainstays such as Gulak. Scott gained a lot from this bout even in defeat.

Overall Show

205 Live delivered a stellar show yet again with two top-notch matches that are absolutely worth checking out. Gulak vs. Scott was a real treat while Mendoza shined in his 205 Live debut. Lorcan's quick showcase was a blast, too. Even with Raw Reunion on Monday night, this was the best piece of WWE programming all week. Put the time aside to watch this show, you will not be disappointed. Plus, we have Drake Maverick vs. Mike Kanellis as well as The Brian Kendrick and Akira Tozawa vs. The Singh Brothers to look forward to next week.
