WWE 205 Live Review - June 20, 2017

Tony Nese def. Gentleman Jack Gallagher

Gallagher is one of the few Cruiserweights that has managed to get over with the audience through his entertaining antics in addition to being a great wrestler, and while Nese is talented as well, he has had very little (if any) character development during his time on Raw. Thus, it's hard to connect with him as a heel. I was surprised he scored the victory here, and perhaps it was their way of attempting to rebuild him as a legitimate threat, but the damage has been done with him being branded as an enhancement talent since the dawn of the division.

Mustafa Ali def. Drew Gulak

Despite its odd lack of exposure on Raw, I've been digging this rivalry by and large for the past month or so because of the story they've told. That was furthered here with Gulak doing everything in his power to ground Ali, and in the end, Ali won with a "wrestling move" and not his normal high-flying finisher. Thus, I assume the feud is not yet over. It's just a shame the crowd wasn't all that lively for this despite how well-wrestled it was.

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville def. Rich Swann (Non-title)

You can always count on Neville to deliver a great match and salvage an otherwise mediocre edition of 205 Live. He is just so damn fantastic in his heel role and of course having an awesome opponent in Swann certainly helped. I'm glad they followed up on Neville's ruthless attack on Swann on last week's Raw and these two have typically had really good chemistry together in the past. They definitely picked up the pace in the second half with the final few minutes being a ton of fun, but ultimately, it was Neville emerging victorious yet again.

Overall Show

Although there was some solid storyline progression in the first two matches, neither match was tremendously exciting. Austin Aries' backstage bit with Gallagher was interesting, though, and it will be worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the main event was excellent and yet another example how Neville is the only thing must-see about the Cruiserweight division at the moment.
