Gentleman Jack Gallagher def. Mike Kanellis
I haven't seen too many exciting Mike Kanellis matches on 205 Live (and that's coming from someone who is a fan of his work), but I thought he had a real solid showing here against Gallagher. It was a pretty good match on the whole with a nice pace, culminating in a much-needed win for Gallagher. Meanwhile, I'm intrigued where this Kanellis angle will lead. I would have assumed that him and Maria were leaving a few weeks ago, but it has since been revealed that they have re-signed with WWE for the next five years, so I don't think that's the endgame here.
Humberto Carrillo def. Rob Rollenbeck
Carrillo has won a few important matches in his time on 205 Live and has always looked great in defeat whenever he's competed in number one contender matches, but he needs to be placed in another meaningful program soon in order to get to that next level. In the meantime, I'm all for him maintaining momentum with wins in enhancement matches such as this one. This was a fun little bout while it lasted.
Tony Nese def. Akira Tozawa in a WWE Cruiserweight Championship No. 1 Contender's Match
These guys (along with Drew Gulak) killed it on the Stomping Grounds Kickoff show and they once again stole the show here. Considering how well they work together, it was hardly a surprise that this was a highly entertaining encounter with plenty of cool counters and awe-inspiring moments. I would have been happy with either of them winning, but it probably makes more sense for Nese to get the shot at Extreme Rules since he was never pinned for the title in the first place.
It seems like 205 Live slowly but surely is getting back to where it once was, or maybe Raw and SmackDown Live are so dreadfully boring and repetitive that I'm beginning to appreciate the purple brand a bit more than I did before. Either way, this was an enjoyable episode with an excellent main event, a successful showcase for Carrillo, and a quality opening match that concluded with a cliffhanger in regards to what's next for Mike and Maria Kanellis.
