Mike Kanellis def. Tony Nese
Considering neither guy has been terribly important lately, I honestly didn't expect this to be as good as it was. Nese and Kanellis are both talented competitors, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, but they worked well together and even got the crowd engaged in the action by the end. This was more about Nese's losing ways continuing than it was Kanellis picking up a much-needed victory (though it didn't hurt, obviously).
The Brian Kendrick and Akira Tozawa def. Brandon Scott and Tyler Hastings
Needless to say, this was a complete squash match with Kendrick and Tozawa going over decisively, though it's worth noting that the commentators acknowledged how Kendrick was a bit more aggressive than usual. Afterward, Kendrick announced that it would be him and Tozawa versus Gentleman Jack Gallagher and a partner of his choosing on next week's episode emanating from Madison Square Garden. It will be interesting to see if Gallagher chooses a surprise partner or if it'll be someone already on the roster.
Lince Dorado def. Humberto Carrillo to Earn Entry Into WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match at Clash of Champions
Although I thought the first match they had a few weeks ago was better, this was still a strong match between Dorado and Carrillo. They have excellent chemistry and worked a really fun pace. Not everything about the encounter was perfect, but it was enjoyable on the whole. Dorado winning was certainly a surprise and now the Cruiserweight Championship clash at the pay-per-view will be a Triple Threat. They were ambushed post-match by Drew Gulak and Nese, who are apparently allies once again.
Was it just me or was this crowd hotter than most crowds normally are for 205 Live? It was refreshing to hear, but I don't know how long that's going to last with the brand's future in doubt due to SmackDown Live switching nights in about a month. Nevertheless, this was a pretty good show with the opener exceeding expectations, Kendrick and Tozawa setting the stage for next week, and Dorado and Carrillo producing a very well wrestled main event.
