WWE 205 Live Review - September 5, 2017

TJP def. Ariya Daivari

I appreciated that this was meant to follow up on the mini brawl these two had on 205 Live last week, but not only was this a heel vs. heel match (therefore giving the crowd no reason to care), it was simply wasn't well-wrestled at all. Granted, it was a four-minute match, but something was very off about their chemistry on this night and it sadly resulted in a pretty poor outing. The stuff with TJP and Rich Swann afterward was fine, though.

Akira Tozawa def. Drew Gulak

Tozawa was really picking up some steam in his summer feud with Neville, so fingers crossed he remains a prominent fixture on 205 Live going forward. He's a tremendous wrestler and had a fun match with Gulak here. Speaking of Gulak, his pre-match promo proved how far he has come on the mic in such a short span of time. He's becoming a more well-rounded performer and has finally begun to hone his character, so that was pleasant to see.

Enzo Amore def. Cedric Alexander, The Brian Kendrick, Gran Metalik and Tony Nese in a WWE Cruiserweight Championship No. 1 contender's Fatal 5-Way Elimination Match

205 Live has hosted two Fatal 5-Way No. 1 Contender matches in the past and both were excellent. Although I had my doubts, this was equally entertaining as well with everyone except Enzo having stellar showings, especially Alexander. The exciting action was non-stop from bell-to-bell and Alexander came across like a star in picking up three consecutive eliminations before Enzo stole the victory. I realize Enzo is over with the audience at the moment, but turning him heel eventually might be the best choice. Alexander will continue to chase the Cruiserweight Championship and I hope he's next in line after Enzo.

Overall Show

TJP vs. Daivari was totally forgettable and Tozawa vs. Gulak was enjoyable while it lasted, but both were inconsequential compared to the main event, which was a total blast. I wasn't a fan of the finish, but it was essentially expected and thus I can't be too mad about it. Feel free to check out the entire episode, but definitely make time to watch the Fatal 5-Way in particular.
