WWE Main Event Review - August 26, 2014

Rob Van Dam def. Seth Rollins by Count-out

These two have faced off so many times in the last few months that it's hard to get excited about any of their matches, but Rollins and RVD never fail to entertain when they go one-on-one. They have very good in-ring chemistry together and that's what made this an enjoyable matchup. Again, it didn't stand out over their past encounters, but I really liked the finish was different this time. Instead of Rollins going over clean, RVD picked up a nice count-out victory that protected Rollins and put heat on him at the same time. Do I sense some originality from WWE Creative for once?

Adam Rose def. Curtis Axel

As big of a fan as I am of Ryback, I'm glad he's off TV for the time being as Rybaxel wasn't doing anything for this viewer. They were never a real threat to the WWE Tag Team Championship and never meshed from the start. Granted, Axel is boring whether he's in a tag team or on his own, but I still have hope that Ryback will return as a babyface eventually. Anyway, this match bored me to tears. Axel and Rose are both solid workers and they had a decent match, but the audience couldn't have cared less and neither guy can connect with a crowd it seems.

Goldust and Stardust def. Los Matadores

Los Matadores, while great athletes, have a terrible gimmick and it prevents me from taking them seriously in any match they're involved in. I realize this was supposed to be an enhancement match for Gold and Stardust coming off their heel turn on Raw, but their win essentially meant nothing since Los Matadores are a complete joke. They need to unmask and go back to being Primo and Epico ASAP. As for Gold and Stadust, attacking El Torito was a nice heel tactic that further solidified their turn. There was no sign of The Usos, but an appearance by them was necessary anyway.

Overall Show

This wasn't much more than an average episode. As stated, RVD vs. Rollins was a very good match with a clever finish, but Rose vs. Axel was pointless and the tag match was dull. So, if there's anything to check out from this show, watch the opener. Everything else was forgettable and not worth the time to sit down and watch.
