By Graham "GSM" Matthews Paige def. Divas Champion Nikki Bella (Non-title) The match wasn't a classic by any means, but it was a refreshing change of pace to see a Divas match actually get time for once. Both Nikki and Paige are good workers, but it was hard for the crowd to get invested in anything they did until the end since Paige turned "face" only one day ago. I don't if all of this is a ruse and Paige will turn on Natalya before long like she has with all of her former "best friends," but I suspect this will lead to a Triple Threat Divas Championship match at Royal Rumble involving Natalya and Paige. United States Champion Rusev and Lana Addressed Ryback's Firing I was curious as to how they were going to handle this feud now that Ryback is "fired" and I was glad they acknowledged it instead of dropping the feud. It leads me to believe they are still plans for them to clash at some point and I'm hoping they save it for the big stage and don't rush it for Fast Lane. Both Lana and Rusev cut solid promos and it was encouraging to hear Rusev announce his intentions to compete in the Royal Rumble. How is it that only three of 30 names are confirmed so far? Fandango def. R-Truth This was an exact repeat from last week's Superstars and that's where this match belonged. As I discussed in that review, I couldn't care less about either one of these guys right now. They're both so stale and as I've said a million times over, there is nothing "new and improved" about Fandango. Wins over Truth aren't going to help his case, either. Titus O'Neil def. Jack Swagger I was of two minds on this match. First off, I'm glad that O'Neil seems to be getting a push of some sort. I know two wins over Justin Gabriel and a win over Swagger doesn't constitute as a push, but it's more wins than he got before this "push" started. As for Swagger, oh how they might have fallen. I guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore by his constant losses but somehow I still am. The match was nothing to write home about and wasn't exactly the best way to close out the show. Overall Show This was one of the more forgettable editions of Main Event in recent memory. It also wasn't the most exciting way to ring in the new year, especially after that atrocious episode of Raw from Monday. The Divas match was solid and Rusev's promo was newsworthy, but the subsequent matches were mediocre and there isn't anything on this episode that you're missing out on if you didn't tune in.
