WWE Main Event Review - July 21, 2022

Akira Tozawa def. Reggie

Ah, the battle of two of the biggest 24/7 Championship goofs on Raw. It's a shame both guys are basically branded as that at this point, especially Tozawa who is incredibly talented, but it's been determined by the powers that be that's the ceiling and I'd be shocked if they got any higher than that. To their credit, though, this was a nice little sprint and they made the most of the time they had. I appreciated that they got to do more than just roll-ups for a change.

Alpha Academy def. Mustafa Ali and Cedric Alexander

Ali and Alexander are legitimately close in real life and have been since their 205 Live days, so I'm all for putting them together as a tag team because it's not like the company has anything more important planned for them. Yes, I realize Alexander is essentially trading one partner (Shelton Benjamin) for another (Ali), but oh well. They have great chemistry and Alpha Academy were the perfect opponents for them. Alpha Academy have been regulars on Raw all year and are former Raw Tag Team Champions, so it made sense for them to win, but I hope we haven't seen the last of these two tandems against each other because this was a very enjoyable affair.

Overall Show

Main Event features fairly basic bouts more often than not, so I love it whenever we get a match that's even the slightest above average by Main Event standards. That's what we got in that tag team match. I just wish they had more time, but for what it was, I was entertained. Even Tozawa vs. Reggie was well wrestled, making this a better-than-usual edition of Main Event. I'm not sure what Raw replays were included because I completely skip over those, but if you missed Monday's show and want to catch up, then feel free to stick around for those as well.
