WWE Main Event Review - July 8, 2021

Veer def. Jeff Hardy

Hardy lost to Jinder Mahal on Main Event in his return a few months ago, so I guess it was only fitting that he lost to one of his henchmen, too. Seriously, this was depressing. I know people are looking forward to Hardy (hopefully) getting his old entrance music back when WWE returns to the road in a few weeks (and I am as well), but that's assuming he'll even be on TV. He may just continue to be relegated to Main Event and put people over there until his contract expires. The match was perfectly fine and Veer is improving, but the burial (and I don't use that term lightly) of Hardy has been a damn shame.

Angel Garza def. Shelton Benjamin

These are another two guys that should be on Raw more often. Benjamin was lucky he regularly appeared on Raw for as long as he did during his time in The Hurt Business and subsequent feud with Cedric Alexander, but it looks like he's back to Main Event duty indefinitely. As for Garza, I don't know what the hell happened to his mini push from a few months. On the bright side, this was a well-wrestled match from the two of them, making good use of the time they had.

Overall Show

As much as I complain about certain people being relegated to Main Event instead of being on Raw, one thing I've appreciated about Main Event throughout the ThunderDome era is that viewers have consistently been treated to fresh matches most weeks as opposed to the same matches with the same faces week after week. The in-ring action has been enjoyable on the whole with Garza vs. Benjamin being an example of that on this episode. I could have done without Veer squashing Hardy, though.
