Mustafa Ali def. Angel Garza
The heel vs. heel dynamic was weird, but I can appreciate that it was a fresh match we'd never seen before. Ali has been a regular on Main Event for a few months now, while Garza managed to escape for a brief bit for a small push on Raw (which seems to have stopped since we haven't seen him on the show since May 17th). They had a nice little match here that could have benefited from a few more minutes.
Jinder Mahal def. Shelton Benjamin
Mahal is another guy that returned to Raw last month and looked to be in line for a push before disappearing all together. This was actually his first match since beating Jeff Hardy on Raw. Listen, I'm not the biggest Mahal fan whatsoever, but if you're going to bring him back to Raw and have him win, you should probably keep it consistent. Mahal is such a mediocre wrestler that almost all of his matches are average at best, but I applaud Benjamin's effort here to carry him to a competent contest.
The in-ring quality of Main Event from week to week has definitely improved over the last year or two. It still isn't worth making time for in my opinion (and most of the replays from Raw and SmackDown can easily be skipped over), but I do appreciate that we get new matches most weeks and they're well-wrestled more often than not. Mahal vs. Benjamin was perfectly fine for what it was and Ali vs. Garza was entertaining for the time it was allotted.
