WWE Main Event Review - June 5, 2018

No Way Jose def. Mike Kanellis

It was sad to hear Kanellis come out to crickets but I can't say I'm surprised because other than Greatest Royal Rumble and the WrestleMania 34 Kickoff show, he hasn't been on WWE TV in almost a year, which is insane. Why would WWE bother keeping him around in that case? I'm a big fan of his and I'd rather see him somewhere he'd actually be utilized. At any rate, this was a perfectly fine match that had almost zero crowd heat. The final few minutes were fun, though.

Drew Gulak def. Akira Tozawa

Gulak's technical and aggressive in-ring style meshed nicely with Tozawa's fast-paced and exciting aerial offense. It wasn't too different than any other encounter they've had over the last year, but it was still very well-wrestled and gradually got more and more entertaining as it progressed. Unlike with Jose vs. Kanellis, it helped that the crowd was actually invested in the action and didn't sit on their hands for the Cruiserweights for a change.

Overall Show

Raw was extremely abysmal this past week and SmackDown Live was a slight improvement, but on the bright side, Main Event took the best matches from both shows and aired replays of them on this episode. The two new matches were decent on the whole with Jose vs. Kanellis being average and the Cruiserweights producing an enjoyable affair in the time they were allotted. There isn't anything remotely must-see on this edition of Main Event, but it was serviceable.
