WWE Main Event Review - March 31, 2022

Veer Mahaan def. Cedric Alexander

At long last, Veer is set to re-debut this coming Monday on the post-WrestleMania edition of Raw. We'll see how the crowd takes to him (if at all), but I hope he gets a decent reaction since he's basically become a meme online. Of the many matches he's had on Main Event since late last year, this wasn't one of his better showings, and that's a shame because Alexander is obviously very talented. They didn't mesh very well and the crowd was quiet. It was hurt by the heel vs. heel dynamic, but at least it resulted in another win for Veer.

United States Champion Finn Balor def. Apollo Crews (Non-Title)

I'm still stunned that, unless something changes, Balor won't have a presence at WrestleMania 38. Keep in mind that he missed WrestleMania 36 and WrestleMania 37 due to being in NXT at the time, so despite being free to appear at this year's event, he won't be on the card because Creative has nothing for him. That's especially bad considering he's the current United States Champion. Speaking of which, there's a reason the U.S. champ never competes on Main Event, and it's because the show should be beneath him. Don't get me wrong, he and Crews had an enjoyable affair, but Balor being relegated to Main Event duty is not a good indicator of how the company perceives him.

Overall Show

This marked the Main Event debut of Balor, and although that certainly makes this episode noteworthy to an extent, it's sad to see him fall so far. Again, the fact he doesn't have a 'Mania match is shameful. On the bright side, he and Crews had an above-average match by Main Event standards. Meanwhile, Veer vs. Alexander was fairly dull, but it did serve as a solid preview of what to expect when Veer when he arrives on Raw next Monday.
