WWE Main Event Review - October 7, 2014

PictureBo Dallas comes close to defeating Dolph Ziggler.
By Graham "GSM" Matthews

Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler def. Bo Dallas

I was fine with the logic of Dallas earning this title match through his back-to-back-to-back wins over Mark Henry, but if that's the case, why isn't Rusev contending for any gold? The guy's undefeated! Anyway, this was a good match that could have used more time to be more memorable. It would've helped if it took place later on in the night with pre-match interviews from both guys. Ziggler's constant title defenses boost his credibility as champion, but hopefully it's not done too often to where his title matches don't feel special.

Nikki Bella, Summer Rae, Layla and Cameron def. Brie Bella in 4-on-1 Handicap Match

The difference in the feud between Brie Bella and Nikki Bella from before Night of Champions and after the event is like night and day. Their rivalry is so much better when Brie isn't required to talk. At least Nikki is believable in her role, and the story they're trying to tell with Brie going through everything her sister did is a simple story to follow. I'm still not looking forward to their eventual match, but at least it's not being shoved down our throats as aggressively these days.

Tyson Kidd def. Jack Swagger

Once again, Kidd and Swagger worked a nice match, but I'm not a fan of the even-steven booking. I don't see what it's supposed to accomplish, and this was the same problem Swagger had in his feud with Bo Dallas. Who gains anything? If nothing else, I'm glad Kidd continues to get TV time and his on-going angle with his real life wife Natalya is enjoyable and intriguing.

Jey Uso def. WWE Tag Team Champion Stardust

It's obvious Creative is just killing time until their next match at Hell in a Cell since we've seen every combination of this match in the last month. It wasn't a bad match, don't get me wrong, but as I've said multiple times in the past, The Usos bore me when they're on their own. It was a decent enough match for what it was, but Stardust and Goldust have lost almost every match since they won the tag titles. They've looked like weak champions so far and they must be booked stronger going forward so fans will actually want to see the teams clash at the upcoming event.

Overall Show

It wasn't as enjoyable of an episode as last week, but nothing was terribly bad and it was a pretty standard show on the whole. The Intercontinental Championship match was slightly newsworthy and the subsequent matches furthered feuds, so at least nothing of what was featured was completely meaningless.
