WWE Main Event Review - September 15, 2022

R-Truth def. Akira Tozawa

Truth and Tozawa spent years feuding over the 24/7 Championship. Thankfully, those days are long gone, even though the 24/7 Championship unfortunately remains in existence as of now. These two haven't  been used for much beyond matches on Main Event since the title was taken off Raw, but this was perfectly fine for what it was and the crowds continue to love Truth.

Shelton Benjamin def. Cedric Alexander

I loved that we got to hear from Benjamin earlier in the episode via a pre-taped promo, talking about his past battles with top names and his outing here with Alexander. Main Event would benefit from more stuff like that in the future as it makes these matches matter. It especially helped in this case given the history these two have as partners. They've always had excellent chemistry and that was once again evident in this outing, which was damn good. You could tell they gave it an extra effort and the crowd was into the action as a result. Mustafa Ali coming down to the ring afterward and attempting to console Alexander only for Alexander to push him away was a nice touch to potentially set up a match between the two or at the very least tease tension.

Overall Show

I didn't have the highest hopes for this show when it started since Truth and Tozawa have had what feels like a million matches in recent years, but they had a fun little match that the crowd was into while Benjamin vs. Alexander was an absolute blast. It really feels like the folks on Main Event have been giving it their all since Triple H took over Creative and that there's been other stuff beyond just the matches, which has made the program more enjoyable each week.
