Tony D'Angelo, Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo and Troy "Two Dimes" Donovan def. Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Cruz del Toro and Joaquin Wilde)

This match was made official this past Tuesday on NXT with the stipulation stating that the losing faction would have to work for whoever won. That added some stakes and made matters more interesting. This was actually a very enjoyable opener with a frantic pace and a hot crowd. Escobar recently beat D'Angelo on NXT, so D'Angelo's crew winning here made sense. The segments coming out of this with Legado working for D'Angelo and his boys have potential.

NXT Women's Tag Team Champions Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jane) def. Katana Chance and Kayden Carter

Although they never win whenever it matters most, Chance and Carter have turned into quite the team in the last year or two. They have great chemistry together and I applaud them for their innovative offense, even though I thought they got a little too cute with it in this match. All in all, this was a nice match with good work from both teams. I still say Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade should be the team to take the titles from Toxic Attraction.

Carmelo Hayes def. Cameron Grimes to Win the NXT North American Championship

These two have top-notch chemistry together, so it was no surprise this was a very good match. I honestly expected it to be a little hotter than it was, especially down the stretch, but I commend them for their effort, nonetheless. Hayes regaining the gold was certainly a surprise. Not that I'm not complaining, but Grimes had only been champion for two months and I figured Hayes was moving onto the NXT Championship picture. If Hayes' second reign is anything like his first, then I'm looking forward to it.

NXT Women's Champion Mandy Rose def. Wendy Choo

This just might be my least favorite feud in not only NXT but all of WWE (if not all of wrestling) in 2022 so far. I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but it has truly been terrible. The Choo character should be nowhere near the title scene, but thankfully, Choo is actually a very talented wrestler and thus this was better than I thought it would be. Rose's matches tend to be hit or miss, but this was definitely one of her better bouts as champion. Needless to say, the result was the right one.

The Creed Brothers def. Pretty Deadly to Win the NXT Tag Team Championship

Creed Brothers have been in chase mode for many months now and have gotten over with this audience. It's cool to see because they've really come into their own and have a bright future ahead of them. If they lost here, they would have been booted from Diamond Mine by Roderick Strong, so they had that going for them as well. This was an entertaining encounter with some strong tag team work toward the end. Pretty Deadly's reign didn't last long, but Creed Brothers needed this moment and I'm glad they got it.

NXT Champion Bron Breakker def. Joe Gacy

If Breakker got himself disqualified, he would've lost the NXT Championship. Even with that in play, I still didn't think Gacy would win, and the feud has largely been lame, but they delivered a rock solid main event, nonetheless. Gacy's gimmick can be polarizing, but the guy can go in the ring and that was evident in this outing. That spear from Breakker toward the end was just terrific, too. Now, let's please move on from this.

Overall Show

I've said before that the best shows under the NXT 2.0 banner have been the live specials, whether that's Peacock-exclusive events such as this one or the special editions of NXT TV such as Halloween Havoc and New Year's Evil (or The Great American Bash which is confirmed to be coming back July 5th). Personally, I found this to be one of the weaker ones they've done despite the two title changes, but there was nothing technically wrong with it and the six matches breezed by. I guess it's just the lack of star power on the brand at this point that stands out to me, but if nothing else, they're making the most of the roster they have now and are in the process of getting several of the new faces over.
