Aleister Black def. Curt HawkinsI really liked how the commentators made mention of the brief history these two have from their match on Main Event earlier this month. The fact they showed footage of Main Event at all was a pleasant surprise. This was easily Black's most competitive squash match to date and the crowd ate up all of his awesome offense. I always look forward to see him kick someone's face in. On a side note, I'm curious as to whether Hawkins will be a regular in NXT going forward (similar to how he was in 2013/2014) or if this was merely a one-off. The Velveteen Dream def. Robert AnthonyAt first glance, Dream immediately reminded me of Orlando Jordan during his short stint in TNA years ago, just without all the guys and girls kissing each other. Dream is a much better wrestler than Jordan ever was from what I've seen from him in the past, and he's definitely dedicated to the gimmick, that's for sure. Doing a gay (or "exotic") gimmick in 2017 and expecting it to be booed just seems ridiculously outdated to me, but maybe the fans at Full Sail University will take to it after awhile and the act will get over. If nothing else, the height he got off his flying elbow finisher was damn impressive. Drew McIntyre def. Wesley BlakeDoes anyone know what Blake's gimmick is supposed to be? It's not like it matters because he's a jobber at the end of the day, but maybe his lack of identity is why. Either way, this was another enjoyable outing from McIntyre and his hard-hitting style is such a breath of fresh air. Blake sold well for McIntyre's offense and while the contest lasted a little longer than it probably should have, the crowd was solidly behind McIntyre throughout. I could certainly see him being the one to dethrone Bobby Roode as NXT Champion in Brooklyn this summer. Overall ShowPer usual, this follow-up edition of NXT from TakeOver: Chicago mostly recapped the event from Saturday night and consisted of videos and interviews already available on WWE.com. However, it was slightly newsworthy for the re-debut of Velveteen Dream, and although the other two bouts with Black and McIntyre were enhancement matches, they were fun while they lasted. That said, I'd hold off until next week for the real fallout from TakeOver.
