WWE NXT UK Review - April 7, 2022

Primate def. Wild Boar

These two were previously tag team partners in The Hunt before Boar was booted by Eddie Dennis so he could form Symbiosis. I can't say this was a match I was clamoring to see, but it ended up being a nice sprint with good showings from both guys. Dennis' interference protected Wild Boar in defeat and Mark Andrews making the save for Wild Boar afterward made sense given their history as friends. This was well done all around. 

Charlie Dempsey def. Wolfgang

As I say all the time, Gallus are all over these shows week after week and now they have go-away heat with me. Yes, all three of them are skilled wrestlers, but they bore me to tears and I'd have no issue if the idea is to split them up soon. Dempsey, on the other hand, is just terrific and I thought he was largely responsible for this bout being as good as it was. The eye popping up on the big screen and distracting Wolfgang was campy, but the rest of this was well worked and the result was the right one.

NXT United Kingdom Champion Ilja Dragunov def. Roderick Strong

I'm really glad this match was able to happen in front of fans because that element added to my enjoyment of this hard-hitting affair. I've been looking forward to this since Strong called out Dragunov last month and they did not disappoint. For as much as a stepping stone as Strong has become in NXT 2.0, there can be no denying that he's still one of the best pound-for-pound wrestlers in the world today, and Dragunov's obviously excellent as well.

Overall Show

This was a one-match show on paper because Dragunov vs. Strong was so highly anticipated, but this turned out to be a very enjoyable edition of NXT UK on the whole. Wild Boar vs. Primate exceeded my expectations, Dempsey vs. Wolfgang was well wrestled and saw Dempsey pick up another victory, and the main event was awesome as expected. Seriously, seek that out if you haven't already done so. I'd love to see more of Strong in NXT UK, but I'm thinking this was it for him on the brand. He may as well stick around since he has nothing of note going on over in NXT right now.
