Oliver Carter def. Charlie Dempsey in an NXT United Kingdom Championship Tournament Quarterfinal MatchI love that these two met in the quarterfinals of the tourney because Carter previously beat Die Familie's Teoman and Rohan Raja in singles competition. They worked with a sense of urgency and had a very good match. I fully expected to Carter to fall short after a competitive contest, but he surprisingly won and will advance to the next round. I don't know if I would have done that personally, but at least he's being established as someone to keep an eye in Ashton Smith's absence and is getting a real chance to shine. Eliza Alexander def. Thea HailWhat's funny is that Hail said her match on Tuesday's NXT was her first, even though he's been competing on NXT Level Up for quite a while now. She didn't seem too timid here, so apparently it was implied those matches on Level Up did actually happen and she has some experience. Alexander appears to be entering the NXT UK Women's Championship picture, so it made sense for her to win here. They had a decent match and Hail continues to impress despite not being around for very long. Sam Gradwell def. TeomanThis came completely out of nowhere, though I believe it stemmed from Die Familie confronting Gradwell backstage. Gradwell's grown on me this past year and I'm happy he was able to win for a change here, though I can't imagine this is a positive sign for Die Familie following their several losses to Carter and then this. It was a well-worked affair, but it felt like it was designed to kill time more than anything. Trent Seven def. Wolfgang in an NXT United Kingdom Championship Tournament Quarterfinal MatchI know Wolfgang competed for the NXT United Kingdom Championship two weeks ago, but I still don't see him as a top title contender. Thus, it only made sense for Seven to advance to the next round. That's in addition to how Tyler Bate is on the other side of the bracket and is bound to face Seven in the finals. This was solid stuff and reminiscent of the early days of the brand that Seven and Wolfgang were around for. Overall ShowLast week's episode was one of the worst in a while and it was going to be tough for this one to top it. Thankfully, this was an improvement and the newly-announced tournament for the title gives matches more meaning for the foreseeable future. That's really the only thing worth getting invested in at the moment on NXT UK, especially with the women's division being in a state of disarray.
