WWE NXT UK Review - December 16, 2021

Charlie Dempsey def. Joe Coffey

I'm slightly surprised we got this match so early in the feud between Gallus and the trio of Dempsey, Teoman and Rohan Raja. This was easily the most interesting singles match that they could've done among those six wrestlers and it delivered. Coffey's matches tend to be very good or very boring, but I thoroughly enjoyed this as he and Dempsey's styles meshed exceptionally well. It was a hard-hitting, well-wrestled affair with the right result. Dempsey is off to a strong start in NXT UK.

NXT UK Tag Team Champions Moustache Mountain Addressed the Audience

It's amazing to think Moustache Mountain have been with NXT UK since the start and only now have won the NXT UK Tag Team Championship. They mentioned that they became the first team to hold those titles and the NXT Tag Team Championship as well as how Tyler Bate became the first Triple Crown winner in the brand's history. This was a fun little celebration from them and I'm glad no one interrupted, especially since we found out there's going to be a mini tournament to crown new number one contenders starting in three weeks. Trent Seven showing some doubt at one point caught my attention, though. I still feel like a feud between them is coming at some point.

Kenny Williams def. Danny Jones

Williams is in the midst of a rivalry with Subculture at the moment, so unless Mark Andrews was going to distract him and cost him the victory like he did a few weeks ago, this was pretty straightforward stuff with Williams winning relatively quickly and picking up the decisive victory. It was what it needed to be. We found out afterward that Andrews was attacked backstage, so that's probably why he didn't come out at all during this.

A-Kid def. Nathan Frazer in an NXT UK Heritage Cup Championship No. 1 Contender's Match

I loved the interaction these two had in that Triple Threat with Rampage Brown not too long ago and I'm happy we finally got the singles match between them. The awe-inspiring athleticism from both men made this a blast, though it was hampered a bit by the Heritage Cup rules. It followed the same formula a majority of these matches do, but it was well worked and they made the most of it. With this win, A-Kid has a chance to reclaim the NXT UK Heritage Cup Championship he lost to Bate earlier this year.

Overall Show

This was one of the stronger editions of NXT UK in a while I thought. It opened and closed with two excellent matches that are worth seeking out. Plus, Moustache Mountain addressed their title victory and Williams picked up a necessary victory, so everything served a purpose. This show was lacking the women this week, but that's my only nitpick. Unless I missed something, I don't believe anything was advertised for the next two weeks, so my guess is that like they usually do, NXT UK will be taking the holidays off and will be back in the new year with fresh content.
