WWE NXT UK Review - March 3, 2022

Mark Coffey def. Sha Samuels

I don't have much interest in this feud at all, but I don't think it will extend beyond this match. It merely existed to fill a spot on the show. That said, this was a well-wrestled opener. Mark Coffey is the least interesting Gallus member (though the group on the whole has been boring for a while now), so I would have rather seen Samuels score a rare win. Maybe this means Coffey will challenge Noam Dar for the NXT UK Heritage Cup Championship soon.

Jack Starz and "Bomber" Dave Mastiff def. Pretty Deadly

We haven't seen much of Pretty Deadly in action since they lost the NXT UK Tag Team Championship. I figured they'd win here to get back on track, so the result surprised me, especially since it appeared at one point that Starz and Mastiff were headed for a split. This was a perfectly solid match with some nice tag team work. Starz picking up the victory for his team was interesting and the new aggressive edge was appreciated.

NXT United Kingdom Champion Ilja Dragunov def. Nathan Frazer

I knew this was going to be a banger from the moment it was announced and they did not disappoint. Frazer rarely wins in these high-stake situations, and although that's going to be a problem eventually if it continues, his matches have been excellent enough that I don't mind for now. I had no expectation of him winning here, but I enjoyed the hell out of this, nonetheless. Dragunov delivered as always and had fantastic chemistry with Frazer. This was the best bout NXT UK has had since Dragunov vs. Jordan Devlin several weeks back.

Overall Show

I've been complaining for weeks that NXT UK has been lacking important main event matches as of late. Well, this episode had just that. Definitely make time for Dragunov vs. Frazer. Yes, it was predictable and, yes, it slightly suffered without a crowd, but it was still a blast. The rest of the show was a bit better than it has been for the past month, though I maintain that NXT UK could use more compelling storylines. The last month has mostly felt uninspired.
