WWE NXT UK Review - October 3, 2019

Piper Niven def. Isla Dawn

Similar to Nina Samuels, Dawn is one of those wrestlers from NXT UK who does absolutely nothing for him. She seems decent enough in the ring, but I couldn't care less about her as a character. She has yet to impress me in any way, but at least Niven was able to make this passable in my opinion. While it wasn't anything out of the ordinary, it did allow Niven to bounce back following her loss to Rhea Ripley several weeks ago.

Alexander Wolfe def. Saxon Huxley

I have no idea why this match happened other than to give Wolfe a momentum boost on his own. He's a perfectly competent wrestler and this wasn't bad by any means, but it never felt like the outcome was in doubt, especially since Huxley hasn't won anything important on NXT UK in... well, ever. Thus, this shouldn't have lasted as long as it did. On a side note, I liked the interaction Wolfe had with Ilja Dragunov backstage beforehand. Dragunov would be an amazing addition to Imperium if they decided to go that route.

Gallus Attacked NXT UK Tag Team Champions Mark Andrews and Flash morgan Webster

We were supposed to get a match between Jack Starz and some dude named Mike Bird, but Gallus attacked them both before the bout could come to fruition. They also laid out Andrews and Webster when they attempted to make the save, so it sure looks like that'll be the next program over the NXT UK Tag Team Championship. Honestly, I'm slightly disappointed that Andrews and Webster vs. The Grizzled Young Veterans is already over considering their latest encounter for the titles wasn't what it could have been.

NXT UK Women's Champion Kay Lee Ray def. Tegan Nox (Non-Title)

Nox returned to action not too long ago and hasn't shown many signs of ring rust. Her last match was a quick squash, but she had a standout performance here against the champion. Despite a hell of an effort, she was unsuccessful in emerging victorious, but at least she looked credible in defeat. I thought it was weird that Nox would lose so soon after coming back from injury, but perhaps this was designed to write her off the show now that we know she'll be making appearances in NXT in the immediate future as well.

Overall Show

The main event was really what sold me on this show. It wasn't anything too amazing, of course, but it was entertaining enough that it's worth seeking out in my opinion. If you aren't already familiar with Nox, you should be, she's a star in the making. The rest of the episode was solid for what it was and set up a few different stories in the tag team and women's divisions. It was announced that Niven will take on Jazzy Gabert next week, so that should be an exciting clash.
