The Shining Guns def. Intercontinental Champon Razor Ramon & Savio Vega, Yokozuna & Owen Hart, and 1-2-3 Kid & Sycho Sid in the Raw Bowl
Shouldn't there have been a rule against two teammates being in the ring at the same time? At the very least, they shouldn't have engaged in combat but rather tried to eliminate each other so they could technically win, or was that not legal? I'm not sure, that aspect of the rules was never explained (though it was alluded to that they might have been eliminated). Also, I realize he was eliminated a short time later anyway, but shouldn't Ramon have been disqualified once he attacked Kid during his "timeout"? Other than those things, this was a fun little gimmick match. Goofy, yes, but fun, and you have to appreciate how they attempted to get creative with the rules, so I liked this.
DiEsel def. King Mabel
I was expecting the absolute worst here, especially after their horrid match in the main event of 1995's SummerSlam pay-per-view. But this was at the time that Diesel had a renewed aggression about him following his loss of the WWE Championship, so having him squash Mabel in eight seconds was the best decision they could have made. Not only did it solidify Diesel as a dominant force heading into the Royal Rumble, it spared us from what would have been a terrible match, so this was a win-win.
I've heard quite a bit about the Raw Bowl over the years and figured I would check it out given it is Super Bowl Sunday as I write this. Ultimately, I'm glad I did. The presentation of the Raw Bowl match itself and the the show on the whole with the halftime report and the funny nicknames and jerseys for everyone were really well done. I'm not surprised they haven't done it since, mind you, but it's good to break away from the norm every once in a while and they successfully did that here I thought.
